Re: tach prombles

Nope it's not true, a factory tack will wire right up to an HEI dist.

Re: tach prombles

The only "tach adapter" that I am aware of is used when dealing with a newer style engine with things such as "Coil on plug" ignitions etc. Just for clarification, what year truck/engine are you dealing with???

Also, a V8 engine needs a V8 tach, 6 cylinder needs a 6 cylinder tach..etc.

Re: tach prombles

The tach came out of a 67 chevy big truck.with and old dist.and coil pack on it. My truck is a 68 chevy with a 396 big block in it.and a hei dist.and the tach is not working or reading right.it moves but just a little bit.something is wrong.

The "big truck" part is a little questionable to me. Some were V8 some were V6...

Assuming your tach is for a V8, and lets also assume the tach wire is connected to the proper terminal on the HEI and the guage is grounded properly. If all that is good then I would say that you possibly have a bad tach. Have you seen it work correctly previously or is this your first time to hook it up?

These original tachs should all have "V8" or "V6" stamped on the back of them.

Yep, they had big V6s but only in the GMCs, he said he got it from a big chevy, no V6s in the Chevys.
