New to this site. Hello all. Exhaust Question
I am new on here and there seems to be a great deal of info on here. I have a Mid seventies P-15 GMC 1/2 ton ( same as a Chevy P-10) 102 inch wheel base Stepvan with a olson body. I removed the worn 292/Sm465 and installed a fresh 350 and th400 and I used exhaust manifolds for a 67-72 pickup, ramhorns with outlets pointing at 45 rearward. The local muffler shop wants waaaay to much to make up two head pipes. The question is, is there a company that sells or does someone have some head pipes to fit stock manifolds for a dual exhaust on a 67-72? The 73 and up manifolds are different. I think the manifolds I have will only accept 2 or 2-1/4 pipes. The engine has a r/v cam and preformer intake and carb, no hotrod just a tower and crusier.

I don't see why your muff shop would charge any more for rams? Geeze if they can't flare up a set of pipes to them, then I think you should find another shop.
They may be over charging you for the heat valve on the pas side, so you may want to get one from LMC or places like that.

The morons want 500 for dual exhaust and I am supplying the mufflers and it was only for turn outs in front of the rear tires.

Re: New to this site. Hello all. Exhaust Question
My brother in southern Mo. has a muffler shop, and for something like what you are wanting he would build and install for less than 200.00.he also uses 14 ga aluminized pipe NOT that light weight 14 steel that rusts out in 2 yrs.I would call those guys thieves not morons. Also he joins the pipe w/a MIG welder not cheap clamps and uses HD weld on hangars. Maybe a little more for the heat riser.

Re: New to this site. Hello all. Exhaust Question
muffler shop prices seem to vary quite a bit from one area to the next. I had to pay $100 for two 2 1/4 inch pipes from the manifolds down to the floor boards. I was hooking a 67 - 72 exhaust kit, to a caddy motor. I was p!ssed, but what could I do... thay had me by the nads.
As for the O.P.'s actual question, go to LMCtruck.com, and order there catalog for the 67 - 72, you'll see what you need in there. It's a whole kit, and it may not work 100% with your leaf spring suspention, but it'll get you started and get you on the road at a minimum. |

Re: New to this site. Hello all. Exhaust Question
I was going to say pretty much the same thing that Longhornman said. There is a great discrepancy in muffler shop prices from one area of the country to another. Probably most of it is due to the going labor rate in different areas.
Toby, see if your favorite auto parts store has a catalog from one of the exhaust supply houses like Walker Exhaust. I didn't find duals but here is the link to their website and you can search through it. http://www.walkerexhaust.com/defaultEN.asp Last edited by mr48chev; 04-20-2009 at 03:20 AM. |
