Line ex?

So I am in the process of building a 2wd gmc, what are the drawbacks of having it line exed inside and possibly a little over the rail so the top doesn't wear through my new paint. I plan on going topless 95% but I don't know how much damage to the paint it will do when installed. It is turning out to be a show quality rig but I dont want it to look like a truck. Any advise? Over the rails or not? I in the middle of tubbing the rear fenders before linex for future mods. Thanks

Re: Line ex?

You may have sealing issues for the top with the line-ex over on the bed rail and it may make it very difficult to put the top on with that little bit of extra material lifting the top up slightly.

If it is strictly for your own preferences, line-ex is fine. If you plan to sell it, it may lower the value slightly. I'd be a little cautious about buying a blazer with a line-ex tub. It can hide a lot of repairs & issues and make doing future repairs or mods more difficult.

Make sure you take pics of the floor panels, etc., before having the Linex sprayed. If you ever sell it, buyers will want to know what's covered up by the Linex.

Re: Line ex?

Floor repairs will always be visable from underneath, aside from the torsion box area, so if a buyer wants to lie on his back and check things out, no worries. (unless of course the underneath is done too but that's unlikely)

That said, I wouldn't worry about resale so much as future work, the stuff is horrible to deal with later IMO.

Another option you could check into is a spray in sound deaden-er that's paint-able.

Re: Line ex?

On my`71 Blazer I had custom upholstered panels made.I had custom Stainless trim to cap the rail when the top was off,if you think that would look alright.

Re: Line ex?

3M Clear Bra. Just do the bed rails, no one will see it, and is'nt thick enough to cause alignment issues with the top.
