what are exhaust legalitys in the state of texas, i am thinking of running straight pipes and dumping it directly behind the cab.

I believe the law says you have to have some kind of muffler(be it glass packs, regular mufflers etc). For safety reasons it is never a good idea to have your pipes exit under any vehicle. When I bought my truck the previous owner had them dumping right after the cab. Sitting at stop lights the fumes almost overwhelmed me. On the hiway it wasn't bad but you could still smell it. I also think the laws say it has to exit outside the vehicle but I see alot of trucks that do otherwise. Call your local inspection spot they can tell you whats legal and whats not usually.

Locutus is correct, there are noise level laws. Open pipes WILL get you a ticket.

i see people running straights all the time out the back and the local cops dont say much and there strict. my old truck has two 40 series flows dumpin right past the cab. the muffler shop says they cant be under the cab becuase of fumes but there legal right after the cab.

reason i asked this is that my pipes dropped the other day while driving and ruined the flanges, so i stole a pair that dad had lying around and welded dumps on them so i would not risk catching much on fire and have been runnign the truck like that and will for about another week or so until i get the money to take it to the exhaust shop, have not been pulled over yet and i guess it helps that i personally know everyone at the local pd

HAD MINE PASS INSPECTION A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. MINE GOES TO THE REAR AXLE(18" SHORT OF THE AXLE) AND JUST STOPS NO TURN DOWNS. NEVER BEEN STOPPED OR HARRASSED. 2 1/2" DUALS WITH 2 CHAMBER FLOWMASTERS.

Tx inspection only requires for muffler(s) to be there, and pipes to extend past the cab.
I went round and round with this one on my GMC. Had a leak in a pipe 5 inches past the cab. I got my sticker, but it took some arguing.
