Help getting the Molding glue off

Im taking the molding trim off the out side of my truck. I Pulled the trim off but now i have the dumb glue strips still there. Does any one know of an easy (and cheap) way to get the dang glue strips off?

Re: Help getting the Molding glue off

you could use a little heat like from a hair dryer to get most of it off then use the goof off or wd40 but recently when i took the cap off my truck i needed a brush with the wd40 to get the junk off it was on plastic rail caps so it was ok you cant use that on paint

3M sells an eraser wheel that is used with a drill...body shops use them and they work great. I bought one from Napa but any automotive paint supplier should carry them.

Did your glue have the silver on it?

Re: Help getting the Molding glue off

no it was just that rubber type that was all white. The trim had sliver in it but it turned gold and brown over the years.

Re: Help getting the Molding glue off

Hmm, when I took my trim off it left the silver parts of the adhesive there as well as the glue underneath it.

Re: Help getting the Molding glue off

There is a product called Goo Gone ($4.00/8 oz), which has a citrus smell and is nat a harsh chemical. There is also Goof Off, which is more like a mix of oven cleaner and mineral spirits. We use the Goo Gone for gum removal when cleaning carpet. 3M makes an aerosal adhesive remover (PN 76394, $20/24 oz) that my dad used in his body shop. It is the best stuff I have used and has a nice orange smell. The 3M stuff work good for removing window tint glue after you peel the tint off too.
