1968 GMC c20 w/ v6 4spd

Just about to go pick this one up... paint is in decent shape and i'm sure i'll find some rust.

Im going to guess it is the np435ga trans, 305e v6, 10 bolt eaton rear with ??? 4.10 or 4.56... any input?

Anyways, the search function is working for me right now.... Eventually I'll want to convert over to disk brakes and maybe lower it 2" or so...

What are my options? Will I have to conver over to 5 lug half ton set-up? I will most likely be replacing the rear end and doing an axle flip for lowering the rear... Post pics, thoughts, etc. I would like to keep the 8 lug setup if possible as I will be doing some trailering of my boat(s).

i have the same truck.i believe mine has 4.10's. you can get a front disc setup off of 71-86 chevy /gmc. as for the rear end you can do a gear change to a 3.55 or higher since you have a dana 60. there are plenty of aftermarket parts for that rear end.

Question Re: 1968 GMC c20 w/ v6 4spd

am I wrong in assuming that STD equipment on a c20 gmc would be a Corp/ eaton with 4.10/4.56?

MOST important.... Front DROP springs... Can I retain 3/4 ton 8 lugs? Would I have to swap the entire front from 73-87 donor in order to drop 2-3 inches? Please reply asap. Pics of a dropped c20/c30 would be great.

you won't have to change the front end to drop it, but you will have to at least change spindles, rotors, calipers etc... for disc brakes.

as for std equipment on the rear gear i would think the v-6's had the 4.10's or 4.56's. the dana 60's i have seen with 3.55's where sb & bb v-8's.
http://www.6066gmcguy.org/ check out this link, these guys know more about the gmc v-6's and how they where optioned than anyone on the web...
hope this helps!! rusty
