Cool fuel filler location

yeah i wanted to do this to my fuel filler when i relocate my gas tank. but i didnt want to do it to the side marker i wanted it done to the drivers side tail light because ive seen it done once before and i loved it. Reminded me of the 56 and 57 chevys and early cadillacs with the hidden gas cap.

Here in Oregon they pump the gas for you. I'm afraid too many times they would tear up your paint trying to get it in the side marker light area. You'd have to keep a serious eye on the gas attendents.

Your right there! I live very close to you. Just outside of Forest Grove. I also decided not to go with the marker light location just for the reason you gave. I would rather have it in the bed then on the outside possibly getting spillage or scratched from some careless goof that doesn't care about your hard work to make something look nice.

Having been born and raised here in Oregon, I'm still opposed to self serve, and of course I didn't really think about it when I started this thread. I'd have to agree that it would be a bad idea unless you were willing to hover over the attendant every time you filled up.

yeah, but think of the fun you would have when the gas station attendant couldn't find the gas cap

When I'm on my motercikul in Oregon, the attendant just hands me the pump handle, so I can fill it myself.

My thoughts exactly. when I saw the install on Wes's truck at Classic Heartbeat I thought it was a really cool idea and it is but there is a good chance that the paint will get nicked some time or later. In this state where you pump your own gas at most places all you would have to do is be careful but in Oregon and the states where they pump your gas you have to contend with some real winners putting the gas in and not caring if they scratch the paint.

I wouldn't get too excited over the likelihood of the wiring to the side marker causing a spark or fire. We have been riding around in these things since 1949 with the gas tank inside the cab with us while smoking and having wires run all over the place.

your wrong it was a 56 chevy that had the filler behind the tail light.
55 had it on the qtr panel!

one of my friends hid his filler neck behind the ds taillight and used some cabinet poppers on the taillight, so you push it in and it unlocks. he might roll around here in a minute with a pic.

I did the tail light filler on my truck. I haven't been on here much in the last 2 or 3 years but just about every time I come on I have a PM from someone asking about it. I used a bracket from a flip down license plate. I don't have any pics handy right now that I can post.

That's how mine is setup and I nicked the paint, Plus you have too fill the tank slow.
