How much did you pay for windsheild and install?

I am shopping for a windshield & installation and wondering what is the average price others here have paid for this. Also, Is there different types of tint that are available on the W/S and which tint is best? Which gasket is prefeered? I like the stainless trim around the w/s- Thanks. I am not interested in installing myself-BTDTAHTTS+BWS

I paid $200 for mine plus I Bought the gasket and trim separate. They tried three times to get it right and it still is bunched up in the upper corners. Try to make sure they know what they're doing.

www.safelite.com

You can get a quote via there website,it will vary a little depending on your location, but around here it's around $168. A little "insider information"-the windsheild wholesales for a little over $60,so if you know a body shop or other business that can buy the w/s for you you could install it yourself and save that way

Re: How much did you pay for windsheild and install?

I bought the glass from my work (KRAGENS) an had the glass house in San Dimas install it only cost me $85 for the glass $25 for the rubber an $50 for him to install it. And that included the guy polishing the trim for me an he said he could replace the 2 side windows an the wind wing glass with tinted glass so i wouldnt have to get it tinted and do the back glass in tinted glass all for about $200 bucks including gray smoked glass. This guy is cool he has been in a lot of mags to.

Re: How much did you pay for windsheild and install?

Whatever you do, just make sure they know how to put this style of windshield in, especially if you're using stainless trim. I paid $220 for the windshield and installtion from a 'reputable' installer and provided the gasket and trim myself. Not long after, a corner of the trim had fallen off and the windshield leaks like crazy.

Tinted/shaded $175 installed with new gasket.

Safelite doesn`t suck. Some individual installer might, same as with any glass shop.

Re: How much did you pay for windsheild and install?

I've had windshields installed in both of my nicer trucks. Actually, I should say reinstalled due to them being removed for paint work. Both of them now leak! The C10 went back to the glass shop several times for them to try and fix it. Apparently they're incompetent, because now it leaks like pouring piss outta a boot in any more then a slight drizzle. The K10 seeps a bit on the passenger side...but I try to keep it out of the rain anyway. My beater truck has a crack in the lower passenger side but it doesn't leak. I'd like to replace the windshield but based on past history I think I'll just leave it cracked so I can stay dry! Any suggestions as far as a brand name of gasket that fits/seals the best and where I should be shopping to find it??

Re: How much did you pay for windsheild and install?

I had two installed this past year and it was $139.00 glass only. But the quality of the glass was poor. He said it was ppg glass. Need to replace it again as it cracked due to a small stone hitting it. He even tried doing a patch or glue job on it but failed. I checked the other day and he went up on his price to $159.00. Told him if he didn't have any better quality of glass I would go some where else and get it.

Any advice for the Columbia SC area s far as a "reputable" glass dealer/installer? All of the previous comments (bad ones) have been a fear of mine since I got back to the states. Cnut

I recently had a ws installed with the chrome trim and it cost me $275 + 3 more visits to get rid of all the leaks. I'll never go back to that place again!

That does not sound too bad. It's generally 30 to 40 dollars additional just to do it at your home. Around here its $175 to 190 for a complete install for a standard gasket. The problem with bad mouthing glass shops is that ist hard to get experienced installers on the older glass. Most just know how to glue in. The guy that knows how quits then the shop doesn't have any one. Just a note that there is no reason that they can't silicone the gasket in also to help with leaks. Many cars from the sixties called for silicone but some did not. Its tough some time to get an old window where the body may or may not have been worked on to not leak. Most of the time they don't but it can be a problem at times.Try getting an old 65 mustang fastback window to not leak

The price seems fair for quality work and parts and a quarantee
