Option code question
I have some questions regarding reading the "Service Parts Identification" plate in the glove box. My 1972 truck has tilt, tach, wood grain Basil ,glove box and door panels. It also has Cheyenne Super emblems on the front fenders and Glove box.I have wood grain molding on the bottom and no top molding. The plates on the glove box and door jam match as well
My questions are: does the options list always have every option listed? the tilt and tach are not on mine. Also I have the option code "Z84 Cheyenne Super Equipm" I thought that "z84" was the code for a Cheyenne and Ye9 was for a Chyenne Super. I suspect that my truck may be a "Super" clone is there any way to find out for sure? Is there any way to identify a reproduction service parts identification plate? Thanks |

The tilt/tach were probably added. They would be listed on the SPID.
Z84 is still considered a correct code....CST is the same as Super. All depended on who typed up the SPID that day. As far as a "clone" there is no way to tell unless you have the factory build sheet. It really wouldn't matter one way or the other...we are not talking Yenko Camaros here, just really really nice trucks! Welcome to the board!

Thanks for the reply. I am trying to get a hold on what is original and what has been changed on my rig Do you know if Cheyenne Supers ever came with just the bottom molding? There is no evidence if the top molding being removed. When I re-paint I really like the two tone look with white But I would like to keep it original as possible.

I want to say that the Cheyenne Super had both upper and lower mouldings...both of mine do. I am not 100% sure though. One of the gurus will chime in and verify this. When you say there is no evidence of there ever being top moulding, have you looked behind the fenders for holes being filled in? If you remove the inner fenders, you would see 5 holes to mount the front moulding "spear", or look in the cab below the "b" pillars and you would see holes where the cab mouldings were screwed in. Some of the other upper mouldings used adhesive clips instead, so this would be the best place to look.

Cheyenne Super [ackage included upper and lower mouldings.It was an option on others and also came with any model ordered with deluxw two-tone.

You can also check under the seat to see if a copy of the build sheet paper is there.

I thought so. I will have a good look for any evidence of an upper molding. I guess it would have the chrome on the back of the cab that separated the white roof as well.

So when I read the Z84-- "Cheyenne Super Equipm" is this a mis-print or Doctored up "Spid" All the other options match my truck

Post a pic of the SPID. It will be pretty apparent if somebody made it on a typewriter. These were originally printed on equipment that is now obsolete. Unless you have the correct font, it is pretty easy to tell when one is homemade.

I agree with leddzepp, a photo is worth a 1000 words. Most fake SPID's also are not in alphabetical order as the originals are.

Here is one from my collection that is very similar in the way yours was done. I don't know why these were done this way but I have 6 or 7 that are like them. Maybe Rod or Andy will have an idea?

Thanks for the picture and the info. Very Helpful I have onther Question If the paint code only lists one color I asume It was not originally a two tone truck? I have seen a few SPIDs that list the Paint sceem like white yellow white or something like that. My truck is code 522 medium bronze. I wasn't sold on the color at first but it is growing on me. A paint job is in the not to distant future any suggestions on a color I like that olive green

White/Ochre is listed on my SPID,....and on the build sheet it is listed as White/Ochre/White/Ochre. I have seen the Z84 listed as Super before also. I am guessing it isn't very common.
