What's up with my blinkers?

Howdy Everyone,

One my '69 Blazer.... when I turn on the blinker the first few blinks are fine but then it starts getting faster and faster. Anyone ever seen this? Any advice on what to look for?

Thanks!!

I would try replacing the flasher on the fuse panel. It would be the bottom one, the top one is the hazard light flasher.

I would also take a good look at the bulbs on that side, front and rear.

Might be low on blinker fluid. If so you might be out of luck,as I see these folks are sold out.

Re: What's up with my blinkers?

Blinker fluid was my first thought... I checked it though and it is in the normal range. hehe

When I first got this Blazer I had serious tail end wiring issues so I replaced the backend wiring harness. When I replaced the side marker reflectors with side marker lamps I also replaced the front end harness to add blinker capabilities. All of the bulbs are new and the rapid blinking is on both sides so I'm thinking the only thing left is the flasher do-dad in the fuse block.

Are those resistance based? Should I buy something other than what came on the '69 since I added 4 additional bulbs to the mix? Maybe one from a '72?

Thanks for the input so far guys.

Re: What's up with my blinkers?

I missed that both sides were doing it, yes, i agree 100% on the flasher unit.
The 194 bulbs don't add enough load to even be noticed by the flasher. it is load drivin on the flash rate, that's why hooking up to a trailer can effect the flash rate. But again, 2 194 bulbs won't do it.
