2wd to 4wd?
how much of a disaster project is putting 4wd into my truck? are they even the same frame? guy has the trans, t case, axles, springs, and wheels not sure on driveshafts but probably. his is a 3/4 long bed too. i really just need a rear spring pack(is that the same 2wd to 4wd?) but if i can make it 4 wheel then hey why not.

Re: 2wd to 4wd?
There was a thread on this a while back and if I recall the verdict was find a 4WD frame, otherwise it's too much of a PITA.

Re: 2wd to 4wd?
Sounds like an abortion to me, You'll be making custom cross-members, depending on your skill level, it maybe better to just find a new frame or a rolling chassis, plus you can do a frame up build :P would love to see it. 2 wheel drive and 4wd use different rear springs, i believe 4 vs 5 spring, possibly different lengths but I honestly dont know.

Re: 2wd to 4wd?
mines a 6 spring rear, probably due to the custom camper package. LMC and such dont list 2wd rear leaf springs, just 4wd. i keep meaning to call my local spring shop, i'm sure they can make a spring for it but i'm trying to go as cheap as possible to get it inspectable. screw the 4wd for now, i dont need another big project just want my pickemup back on the road, i have junk to haul!

Re: 2wd to 4wd?
Sounds like people haven't converted a 2wd frame to 4wd.
I have. I'd say it's easier than a body swap. Check my sig. Last edited by FormerMember; 04-02-2009 at 03:23 PM. |

Re: 2wd to 4wd?
i know body swaps can be hard lining it up with the frame front clip and the bed

Re: 2wd to 4wd?
i talked to the guy a bit today, its a rolling chassis for $500 so i'll probably get it sometime next month, need to get rid of some stuff first. i guess someone used the cab and bed on a 1/2 ton project, not sure how long the frame has sat around but i'll check it out next weekend most likely.
