76 to a 79 grille?
what would I need to change if I want to go from a 1976 grille to 1979 with round headlamps?
Also how do I get a picture to come under my name for the forums?? Last edited by souza777; 04-28-2009 at 03:31 PM. |

Re: 76 to a 79 grille?
it will be easy if the hood release are in same place either in the cab or grille

Re: 76 to a 79 grille?
76 has offset hood release, 79 has in center iirc, never owned a 79 or 80, well i own a 79 but just dont pay attention to it. But 76 has the offset handle so it will require different grille than the 79 IIRC.

also, the 79 grill has a upper and lower stainless trim strips and bezels that incorporate the turn signal if your planning on going that far.here's a pic where you can see some of it.everything on the front is stock other than the billet grill.the hood is also different,i'm not sure what years had the raised flat front like you see on mine.79,80?

Re: 76 to a 79 grille?
My '80 didn't have that "raised" area on the front of the hood....but it was a plain-jane truck with the round lights.
My '78 has the remote hood release and '79-80 Grill trim. Grill swaps are pretty straight forward, may need some slight latch reworking, but no big deal. Last edited by 69BBsuburban; 04-28-2009 at 06:32 PM. |

Re: 76 to a 79 grille?
The trim line across the front of the hood began in 1979. The stainless trim parts above and below the grille are not attached to the stock grille so you can use your stock headlight bezels. The inside hood release was an option until 1980. I ordered the one on my 79.
Second pic is of my stock 1979 Silverado. |

Re: 76 to a 79 grille?
Interior hood release option started in 1977.
Hood latches are broken down like this 73-74 75-76 (this is the one that is offset) 77-80 You need the latch assembly from the 75-76 if you are going to use the hood. You can make the 76 fit with some modification though.
