Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
Had my truck parked on the street in front of my friend's house. Heard a bang and the neighbor backed into my bumper with his newer monte carlo.
Good news is, I got $400 cash (no insurance involved), and I am replacing the bed anyways. I really liked that bumper, I traded my sport bumper for this bumper, which came from pcmcobra's truck (a member here). That bumper held up well through the New England weather and never showed any signs of pitting or rust. I guess where it was hit, was a weak spot on the bumper but I was pretty suprised it got pushed up that much. The neighbor already had his bumper replaced at the body shop last month and will have to do it again. I am going to shop around for used bumpers, but I think to find something as nice as that bumper was, I will have to go with LMC or something.

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
Man that sucks. Why are you replacing the bed, rust? The damage to the bed could be fixed.

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
The bed is rusting out, the bottom cross rails, tail pan, and left wheel arch is rotting away. I visited my buddies body shop and we pulled out the bumper as best we can. It is presentable atleast and now I can open my tailgate. I'll put the money I got towards the project and in the mean time, if I find another bumper, I'll buy it. I'll post some pics up of how the bumper came out.

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
Here it is after some tweaking. Not perfect but I can live with it for now until I find a new one.

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
That reinforcement needs reinforcement. My bumper looks similar but my side bracing looks alot heavier duty.
Good to see it was able to be mostly pulled back out. |

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
Sounds like your neighbor needs some driving lessons. If they have replaced their rear bumper twice now, then tell them to turn around when backing!
That pulled out nicely though. Like you said at least it's presentable. |

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
seems like you got short changed there $400 for all that isnt worth it being you were n ot at fault. Id have gotten the actual cash value of the damage even if i had to go through insurance.. its not like you asked to be hit

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
Yea, if I already had the new bed on I would have gotten a real value. The guy was certainly low on money. That bed is scrap metal anyways so I figured I wouldn't press him too much.

Re: Monte Carlo bumper met my bumper
I already bought a solid bed for $350. The current bed on the truck looks nice from a distance, basically the entire left side panel needs to be replaced, the tail pan, cross braces, plus all the supplies, I would be close to or over the cost of the solid bed I bought. If the left side panel were not rotted I would just fix it since the rest is underneath not seen. Unfortunately I can't find any short bed complete side skins and I bet they are very expensive.
