AAAGGHHHGGAAAHHHH WIPERS will not come off – Had to remove the front clip with the cowl in place!! I know the little clip gets pushed up then the wiper should slide off but it is not working!!! I need them off without doing any more damage to the front clip or cowl.

Any tips – I might just have to take a sawzall to the top of them and buy new ones????

Go to napa and buy this handy dandy tool and it will come right off.

You need a couple of pieces of scrape leather or old shoe to pad the cowl and protect from damage.2 large ,about 1/2 to 5/8 wide flat screw drivers.1 on each side twisted up with eqaul pressure usually pops them right off.

I took a bondo spreader and cut a semi-circle out of the thin tapered edge. It slips right around the shaft and protects the paint.

I undid the clip, then grabbed with pliers and pulled VERY hard.

NAPA also has a tool that is plier-like in that you squeeze the handles and lift the wiper off of the splined shaft. The tool has plasticized parts that protect both wiper and paint. As far as the one above is concerned, I've never seen one like that.....not saying it doesn't work, I just haven't seen one.

The tool, at NAPA, that I'm talking about is somewhere around $10, if my memory doesn't leave me stupid.

On my last '68, I had to cut one of them off. Even with the clip removed, it would not budge. Cut off wheel and it was done.

I was replacing the arms anyways so I had nothing to loose and did not want to screw up the splined part.

Perfect timing on this thread. I am trying toremove the wiper arms on our 1957 Belair and found the same problem..........Now thanks to everyone her I've found the answer to how do this. Thanks everyone.

I love the "internets" (as our former President once said).

I have always had a hard time removing wiper arms. I've always got them off but with nice paint on my truck cowl I really don't want to scratch it up just to remove the wiper arms.

So I got on "the Google" (again thanks W), typed in "Snap-on A192", typed in my credit card info, and now all I have to do is wait for the UPS man to deliver it for FREE.

In case anybody doesn't know, Snap-on stuff is usually made here and if all their internets

orders are the same the shipping is free.

If I could only get as excited over facebook.

Found this thread in the search feature. Just to clarify. The clip pushes UP? I can see a little tab handing down, but can't exactly tell what to do with it.

Towels on the cowl, a screwsriver to lever the clip away from the wiper arm post and PULL up.

Use anti-seize on the wiper arm knob threads before you go put it back on and it won't be as much of a problem the next time you need to take them off.

Not sure where I got mine years ago, but it works well....
