Question I have a question to ask please help!!

Hi there,

I have a 1977 GMC 1 Ton Dully pick-up truck, and it has a in the windshield radio am/fm antenna, which it gets very bad reception when I have a camper on it, i also just installed a CB Radio 2 way radio, so what I was wondering is?

Can it be possible for me to connect the am/fm signal as well as the CB radio as well? or will it be a conflict of signal between the two?

so if anyone has any idea's or information including diagram (good quality) that will provide this problem I'll be happy to hear from you, any information is very useful...

Thank you

IIRC you "might" get away using it for AM but not FM. because the way the antennas are tuned for such low FREQ that it isn't worth the trouble. you could get a way with a antenna that is mounted inside the truck if you dont want to mount another antenna.

Oh, okay, I thought that it's okay to mount another antenna totally separate from the CB one?

I see it all the time on all types of trucks including mine? that's why I was asking..

Re: I have a question to ask please help!!

if I understand you correctly. you want to have your CB/and radio hooked up to one antenna? you can have as many antennas as you want on a car. as long as the antenna is used for the right purpose. I may be reading your post wrong. IIRC CBs transmit on the AM FREQ. in the low 20MHZ. so you could in theory use your CB antenna for your AM Radio. but it wont work well. but for FM you have to use a antenna tuned to pick up freq. for the FM band and for the freq. range of 88-108 MHz. so what I would do is have 2 antennas. one for your CB and one for your radio. Put one on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. or if you want, have them all on one side. some day, when I get a CB I am going to have my CB hooked up to two antennas one on both side and then have a antenna for my radio. I hope that help in a roundabout way. but wait for other people to chime in.

Yes that's what I am trying to do, but someone informed me that you can't because it will interfear with FM FREQ right?
Okay then, what type of another antenna do I need that is the best for my FM/AM FREQ?

Ohh you can put both antenna's on the same side of the fender? I thought that it will cause damage or bending of the fender? do you know where to get a better or good antenna for the FM/AM radio?

Yea we have a corbra brand CB and I tell yea, it works great!! it's so very clear signal that I have ever experienced...

Yea thank-you, sorry for not being clear, I didn't know on how to ask it correctly...

I'll help you out more later. I am going go take parts of a truck lol. but start doing Google searches. but to be honest, your "normal" average antenna will work pretty good.

The CB antennas I run are Firestix-II they kick butt, and you can tune em for SWR's so they work very well, I am a big fan of mirror mounts. if you don't have the right kind of mirrors it will be more difficult.

Another option is what is called a "gum ball" mount, it mounts to the body of your rig.

Ohh yea, I have heard of those, that they work very well a family member has those that mount on the gum ball...

So yea, thank you for the helpful information.. yea my mount that we have for the CB antenna we got a bracket that goes right on the inside without cutting a whole in the fender of the rig..

those will work as well. if you are going to use a gumball, I suggest you buy a 3" hole saw, cut out a piece of sheet metal with it out of an old door or hood or something and use it as a backer plate on the inside, clean the area thoroughly and then use adhesive to hold it in place, this will strengthen the metal so as that over time it doesn't get messed up, and get a spring for the bottom of the antenna to allow it to flex.
