i would love to put a crowbar through somebody's window right now!

driving yesterday and this strange knocking starts in my front end on the driverside.
it only occured while the wheels were rotating nuetral or not truck on or off.
i immediatly turned around and went to my buddy's shop a few miles away.

after leaving it down there for about an hour he calls me and asks if i have any enemies, confused i asked why?

all 32 wheel lugs are lose to the point of backing them off with his fingers. 3 had already fallen off somewhere on the road.

WHY WOULD SOMEBODY DO THIS?
if one of those wheels came off around a group of people someone could have been killed!

this is definitly no fluke or mistake on my part.
either somebody was trying to steal my wheels, or a disgruntled neighbour was too much of a wimp to talk to me.

Re: i would love to put a crowbar through somebody's window right now!

Before you jump to conclusions, I've had two friends lose wheels while going down the road. For real...one in a truck that looked like a monster truck. His tire took out a shed! Neither of them thought they could have possibly left something loose. I've started to back out of the driveway and remembered--oh yeah I need to tighten those. It's ok...I bet you'll put a little more muscle on 'em next time.

Make sure and check your lugs. They could be damaged from the vibration.

Re: i would love to put a crowbar through somebody's window right now!

if it was one, maybe 2 wheels i would question the situation, but all 4 wheels were really close to coming right off.

the last time i had any of them off was months ago and i put them on with a lug wrench.

now i know i'm pretty dumb, but not stupid.

i picked up a set of locking lug nuts today.

hopefully i should be okay.

Re: i would love to put a crowbar through somebody's window right now!

I check the torque on all my wheels about once a week, I ruined all the studs on my pass front hub by not tightening the lug nuts, luckily the hub kept the wheel from flying off at 80mph.

When were all four wheels last off the truck would be a good question. People are too lazy to go to the trouble to find the right size lug wrench and loosen 32 nuts to piss you off. I sure am...

well he did say that he tightened it with a wrench last time. and it wouldn't be that hard. just use a 4 way and your typically covered!

What kind of wheels?

I had a uni lug wheel come off of a 78 I had within 4 miles of the house, and it was just put on, tight.

if you really think that someone did this id file a police report just to cover your butt.. This way if it happens again and someone gets hurt and they eventually catch them they and not you will be responsible

I agree with the Uni-lug idea. I lost a wheel years ago because of them.

Re: i would love to put a crowbar through somebody's window right now!

People do strange things. Dad had someone remove the hitch pin out of his reciever one time. He drove around pulling a trailer and backhoe with no pin! Luckily friction and rust held it in til he noticed.

More than my wheels would come off at that speed!

Willett, if the lug nuts being loose was a prank, it was a pretty malicious one.
Maybe check your MC and other fluids for a while too.

Re: i would love to put a crowbar through somebody's window right now!

My kid told me a strange story the other day. He has a '06 Ranger, and a few weeks ago he had a flat, driver's front, and he put on the spare and got the flat fixed and replaced it on his truck. No big deal. Then a couple weeks later he pulled up to a stop sign and that wheel just fell off! While he was sitting still! He got out and all but one of his lug nuts were laying there on the pavement. He must have not gotten them tight enough. Strange things happen sometimes.
