should i rebuild this carb. before i install...

okay, my gmc parts truck had an edelbrock carberator on it, well, this afternoon after school i decided that i'd take it off, well took it off, and it looks pretty gunky in some spots, id say the carb is 3-4 y o......well dad said i should rebuild it before i reinstall, (inside is a lil dirt looking, and appears to have a wee bit of OIL in it)...well, im 16 on a budget.....and the trucks only been sitting 10 months, so i ask, how much a rebuild kit would be, he thought 20 bucks or so, well i looked on summit.com and a rebuild kit was close to 45 bucks....

so should i rebuild the carberator before i put it back on? or should i put it on? and what're the pros and cons of this?

also, it hads a plug for an electric choke, my quadrajet 4bbl is electric choke also, but doesnt have wires going to it, edelbrock has a male plug on it on the electric choke....

sorry for the long post but thats just my current predicament now, i hope i spelled that correct haha

The connection on the edlebrock elect. chock hooks to a 12v source. You want to use one that is only on when the ignition is on though, otherwise youll drain the batt. I'd hose it with carb cleaner and see what happens, worse case you have to take it back off and rebuild it. Good luck. Mike

Yep, take the carb cleaner and spray everything you can get to with it off the truck. If its still on the truck just hit all you can that way. Crank it up and see what happens. Might be ok then again my need to rebuild. Might get lucky though. I did with a junk yard cab years ago. It was a Quad. jet, and it ran great on my dads car till we sold it a year later.Nothing to lose. Good luck.

Re: should i rebuild this carb. before i install...

might run a shop towl where you can too. i even tore it up a little and put pieces of shop towl on the end of some nedlenose plyiers. to get in the 2ndaries. then run the carb cleaner throgh all the little holes and everything. after that "should" run prety perfect fuel wise.

note: if all the gaskets are good you really dont need a rebuild kit. just clean it out.
