i think i might have a posi track, how can i tell? it might have been installed later also

Jack up the rear end and put the truck in nuetral. Spin one tire and if the other spins the same way its Posi. If it spins backwards then its just a single wheel drive. Thats the easiest way.

Now if the clutches are worn out then it could potentially spin the other wheel backwards like a single track so the only true way is to pull the diff cover. But generally the first works pretty well.

have you ever done a burnout in it? Thats how i figured out mine didnt ahave a posi.

i havent done any hardcore burnouts, but i have done little Squeaks.

What is involved in adding posi to a 12 bolt rearend?

Not alot. Just buy the correct posi carrier and a shim kit and install it. Read up on how to shim it though. They say to use a dial indicator but its not completely necessary. Just paint the gears with some of the marking paint Shim till you have just a tiny but of play up and down on the ring gear tighten it down run the gears around and check the wear pattern from the paint you put on and if its to tight or loose shim accordingly. Now take in mind this is a brief abbreviated version of this but basically its whats involved.
