I have a 67 with a real rusty gas tank in it. So rusty that the truck won't start. When I replace the tank should I also replace the fuel pump also? Can the fuel pump be cleaned? Thanks

Replacing the fuel pump is easy and cheap. Also good insurance. Some early models could be refurbished, but I've found that the kit is more expensive than a newer style, toss-when-done type. Don't forget an inline gas filter between the pump and the carb.
This is assuming you have the stock mechanical fuel pump. The electrics [like the Holley Red] are cheaper to rebuild than replace.

I have an inline gas filter now right after the fuel pump and its got some sediment in it but not that bad. I will replace the tank and sending unit to be 100% sure the gas is clean. Is it possible the sending unit is rusted so bad the gas can't get through?

The sending unit could also be an issue. As OrangeSunshine said, changing the fuel pump is easy and not to expensive and as he suggests, be sure to change that fuel filter. My tank was pretty bad also. There are a couple of ways you can actually clean your tank. I used dawn dish detergent and flushed my tank with lots of water and let it dry as a DIY clean but then bought it to a local radiator shop and had it boiled clean and coated (bout' $80 bucks in my town). As far as the Sending Unit, I purchased a new one from Brothers. Again, it was inexpensive. Bout' $40 bucks. Do you self a favor, change all that stuff. Your engine will love you for it. Good Luck!

It would be foolish not to change it while the tank isbeing changed.

also try blowing out the fuel lines as well as replacing the rubber sections especially the one under the cab is good insurance

Will do. I am going to have the tank boiled and coated, change the sending unit, new fuel pump, new filter and replace rubber lines. I am so stoked now. Thanks

Any contamination is bad. We used to call it FOD when I was in the military.
Foreign Object Debris = Foreign Object Damage. Your goal is Zero Defects, thru zero FOD.
The sock on the end of the fuel pickup can decay and not flow thru gas.

since we are on the topic of dirty tanks, I dumped a bunch of, ( as best as I can describe), looks like little chocolate sprinkles, out of my filter. Does anyone now what it is and causes it

I cant tell what it is, as stupid as it sounds, small black choclate sprinkles is the best way I can describe it, any ideas on the best way (and easiest of couse) way to get rid of it
