How do I replace steering box seal?
I've got a power steering gear box from like a 1978 truck and it is leaking at the seal located here. There is a flat dust seal and than a regular seal under it that will be replaced. I have taken the snap ring off but not sure what I do next to remove and replace the two seals.
Anyone able to help me out with how this is done?

Re: How do I replace steering box seal?
I just replaced mine and it pretty easy - I left my box in the truck, pulled the rag joint, used a hammer and a flat punch to loosen the flat nut. The center spins out easily, I used a hook tool to get it going but it isn't much more than hand tight. There are 2 seals, one that is visible in your picture, along with another behind it and an o-ring. I got my input seal kit from Napa, they're the best in my area. The part number is the same for 2WD 1/2 and 3/4 ton 1968-1978 - then the part number changes in 1979 (I have a 79 box in my 68 and the part for the 78 and older will not work, took 3 trips to the part store to figure it out). You should be able to do it in under an hour, not bad at all.

Re: How do I replace steering box seal?
Mark,
I just recently rebuilt my gear box using this article from Fourwheeler and it was really helpful. http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...ild/index.html
