Crazy Quilt Truck!

Another trip to the wrecking yard and this is what was waiting for me. Had to use the camera phone again, but it's worth seeing! Looks like it's been put together from several trucks, Chevy and GMC. I'm told that the owner changed it quite a few times over the years and that it was even a sky high 4X4 for a while. The yard man said the owner has asked them to crush it, but he wouldn't tell me why. I have a shot of the front that I'll try to post tomorrow. Now I know where the front section of that wrecked blue '67 GMC's bed went. I've been to that yard several times and I always wondered.

Re: Crazy Quilt Truck!

It's in pretty bad shape so the owner is probably done with it, and I'd tend to agree that he doesn't want to let someone else have it, but who knows? Springfield Auto Recyclers is one of those yards that is opposed to crushing classics (except when it's a special request from a former employee) and still has plenty of old cars and trucks for folks like us. They don't have a ton of trucks right now, but they have five or six 67-72 chevy's/GMC's right now. One of the owners has a thing for these trucks so it's a great place to go for parts. I've gotten some good stuff so far. I pulled a factory AM radio with all knobs and brackets plus a good speaker and all original uncut wiring out of a truck for only $20. I cleaned it up and now it just needs the faceplate rechromed and it'll be great!
