The one place where wool pads still rule over foam. Getting the compound away from the rivets are a SOB. Always nice to see some attention being given to a deserving bird.

And the "Airstream" guys think they got it bad.I'll bet that is the most polished that plane has ever been.I would imagine the oxidation was there for 40+ years.

I wonder where that plane is housed at. We had a B-17G called "Sentimental Journey" at our local airport for the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Annual Fly-in last year. It was awesome to see it in person. I couldn't imagine restoring something like that though. Just imagine having to fabricate every part you might need. I talked to the guys flying it (They are members of the Arizona Wing of the Commorative Air Force) and they said that pretty much any engine component has to be hand made. The oil puddle underneath it was kinda funny too. The guy told me that they really start to worry though if they don't have oil under it.
