New guy new truck carb guestion

Hey everyone been huntin around on this awsome site for a while. Just Got a 83 short bed with a 305. Got a guestion, it seems like it dosnt have the power it should wont even power brake. Now it has a edelbrock 750. Wich I think is to big. Plus it diesels when I shut it off so I think my timing is off. I want to swap out the carb for a stocker 4 barrel. Any one jnow were I can find one? Used I dont want to pay 300 bucks from summit need to save money for a dropmember!!!!. Any help would be awsome thanks guys.

For a stock 305 id say a 600 cfm would be a nice choice, check ebay out i bought a 600 for $100 shipped in great shape from a guy that had it on a vette.

A stock 4 BBL for your truck is going to be a QuadraJet, which, if you're having troubles diagnose problems with your truck now, I wouldn't even consider throwing that carb on.

I agree with a 600 CFM. Edelbrock makes the 1406 which is a nice carb to run on your 305. It's square flange, so you may have to use an adapter.
