Picked up a new truck

Hey everyone i sold my 84 c10 shortbed. within a few hours i went and picked up a 1973 chevy c10 longbed. it has minimal rust and is complete. has carpet, decent interior, brand new brakes and tires, and the best parts of all-

It has a factory 454 with th400! completely rebuilt with lumpy cam, brand new long tube headers with dual super 40 flowmasters. completely rebuilt 750cfm q-jet. It will lay down rubber for atleast 50 feet from a stop and the only reason it stops is because i dont want to push it that hard. I will get pictures up soon. oh yea, its scary fast- i lined it up with a brand new silverado and subaru wrx turbo both with exhaust systems and just pulled ahead of the subaru-left the silverado in the dust-before i hear any comments on this, it was on a huge 5 lane road with no one else on the road and we only hit about 75-this is the one and only time i will do this unless it is at a track. My neighbor who is a manager at edelbrock estimates its pushing atleast 350 horses. sorry for the long message im just excited-pictures to follow soon! Also, is it rare to have a c10 with a factory 454?

Re: Picked up a new truck

Hey Shaun, don't tell me that CA smog regulations got the best of you? Congrats on the new find, you can now go crazy with any and all mods that you want. I've seen several C-10 longbeds with a 454, but not too many shortbeds, like mine. I'd imagine that the vast majority of both came equipped with a 350/350 combo.

Re: Picked up a new truck

yea i was tired of the smog crap. believe it or not the 84 passed smog easily right before i sold it but i wanted to play with the engine and couldnt so thats why i sold it. so here is the 73. plans right now are a shorter tire in front and back with stock painted black rally rims and deep trim rings. 4 inch drop leafs and 2 inch shackles in rear and 1 cut coil in front. new hood and door and hopefully i can get all the missing trim at the junkyard along with the rims. hope you guys like-

Excellent! I'm in Long Beach, so, ya know, if you want to get rid of it...

What's up with the hood? Looks good to me...

Re: Picked up a new truck

looks good. My old 75 GMC short stepside was a factory 454 truck. It was ordered to to tow a trailor. The 454 was gone by the time I got it though but I still had the trim tag in the glove box that proved it was a 454 truck. They aren`t as common but they are around. The new ride looks great.

Picked up a new truck

Nice truck!! She needs a little TLC, but who cares?!? Those 454 trucks don't grow on trees... they didn't back then, especially with the gas crunch that was happening. As far as the "5 lane road, 75mph max" thing... I tell my wife the same stories... except I change the excuses to like "I'm burning out junk gas" or "I just wanted to break the cam in better", whatever.

BTW - are you going to return it to it's original paint? Looks like Hugger Orange?

Re: Picked up a new truck

That is a sweet truck. You should be able to pull the dent in the deer with a suction cup. I'm guessing the speaker hole on the inside is the reason you want a new door though.

I like it!
Don't junk the door.
Are you going to put the trim back on?

I have a comment for ya........As long as you are safe with it, it doesn't heart to get on it every once and a while. Most people I know have done a little street racing at one time or another. It has been a while for me, but that doesn't mean I won't in the future..LOL...Just be careful..Congrats on the new truck!
