Need Pic of cross member
I am looking for a picture of a 3-speed transmission crossmember for a '69 c-10 SWB. My truck has never had one but it appears that all the mounting holes are there. Is it possible to fabricate your own?

Re: Need Pic of cross member
Here's half a pic.LOL Manuals have a cross member that supports the bell housing, nothing under the trans itself. They have to be cut out when going with an automatic because they get in the way.

Re: Need Pic of cross member
I'm about to pull one out of a 1967 1/2 ton. I think they're the same. You can have it if you want to pay the shipping. Send me a PM in about 2-3 weeks (if you can wait) and i should be at that point.

Re: Need Pic of cross member
Thanks for the pic. That is a bellhousing cross member. i think they refer to it as the rear engine mounts. I am looking for the cross member that goes behind that one, the tranny tail shaft mounts to it.
Griffin, are you talking about the bell housing member or the tranny cross member? can you get a pic? |

Re: Need Pic of cross member
Here's a couple of pics from mine during demo. I had a 3-speed in a 72, but I think it should be the same for you. Like Tx_Firefighter said it bolts to the bellhousing instead of the transmission.

Re: Need Pic of cross member
OK. I have always wandered if mine was removed by a previous owner. it looks like one could easily be fabricated and bolted in.
I know there is a tranny mount called out at autozone, orielly's and napa. but no bell housing mounts. |

Re: Need Pic of cross member
The tranny mounts were like you are thinking for the Automatic. This may be what you are finding at the AP store.IIRC there are some small rubber mounts on the bellhousing style also(between the BH and crossmember).

Re: Need Pic of cross member
If things don't work out with Griffin let me know. I've got one out of a '68 parts truck. It still has the bellhousing attached.

Re: Need Pic of cross member
I have the bellhousing mount. They didn't have a rear mount. The tranny should have the "boss" on the tailshaft for a 2 bolt chevy trans mount. You're right, you can make one out of square tubing or if you need the one i got that's cool too. Let me know.

Re: Need Pic of cross member
You can use the automatic crossmember, and drill holes in your trans, tailshaft if I am not mistaken ?

Re: Need Pic of cross member
IIRC there is some reason for not using the tranny mount and the bellhousing mount(Maybe stress on the tranny with both?).If the issue is a vibration check the carrier bearing. It is in the middle of the 2 piece driveshaft.
