Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

Lippy,at least you where parked,eh?

Just remembered another...
In my`72 K/20 Cheyenne Super.I had been up in the mountains seeing friends and had run it hard alot that day,on & off road.On the way back, very late at night,I pounded across this bridge down a big valley and that`s when it happened. My auxilary tank`s front bolts pulled through the rotted wood bedfloor.Fortunately the gas in it was so old it wasn`t exactly flammable.I heard a thump then immediately saw sparks flying behind me.I had a heck of a time,3:30 am trying to re-mount or remove that thing.I gave up and decided to take the shoulder to the next exit just creeping along very very slowly with the front edge just scraping along. It must have caught on something because the truck took a hop,so I stopped. There it was lying free,so I grabbed it up,tossed it in the bed,and got my tired butt on home. The next morning it really hit me how lucky I was and that was the day I parked it until a restoration was done.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

Lost the back U-joint on a 66 Mustang back when. Made a he!!uva racket as it bounced between the highway and the floorpan. Kinda scary for a 17 year old.

The green truck here sheared a lock ring and backed off the retaining nut on the DS axle. I came around a corner in town and could see the tire in the outside mirror. The wife said that's the palest she's ever seen me. Had to put a jack under it to wait for the tow because the weight was riding on the axle itself.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I was going down the highway around 70mph and came across a retread so I centered over it. It clunked the bottom of my truck. The car behind me swerved. I giggled all the way home thinking about the car behind be explaining to his insurance company that a nutz sack flew up and broke his windshield. When I got home my truck nutz were missing.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I had my drivers rear wheel come off going about 35 mph. The wheel passed me as I sat in the middle of the road. The guy behind me stopped and said "Ill go get yer tire". It traveled over an 1/8 of a mile and finally stopped after it ran through a ditch and bounced down a railroad track. I walked back up the road and found three lug nuts. Very embarassing since I was headed to a car show that day.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

We were pulling my truck home with a tow strap after I bought it. (Not Safe) but we didn't have far to go. I watched the crome gas cap come off, and roll under the guardrail. I couldn't stop as I was just steering , so that was that. Luckily while cleaning it up , I found the original under the seat.
