Im kicking around the idea of stuffing Vintage Wheelworks
V48s under my '73 C10.

17x9 front and 17x11 in the rear.

how much backspacing should i run? I'd like to have about 3/4 inch between the tire and fenders.

i'd measure it for myself, but i'm stuck in my office daydreaming about this and the truck is at the shop.

has anyone here run really wide wheels? got pics?

How low is it? Mine is dropped about 8" in back (flip-kit on 8-leaf spring pack + Bell Tech shackles). I ran 10" wheels w/5.00"BS & was about .750" from the inner tub wall & .500" from the outer lip.

I can't see 11's fitting on a low truck w/o mini-tubbing. They might fit, but definitely would be TIGHT. Even then, your initial question reads "whos got the most dish?". Rear end width plays a big part on the back-spacing required for that deep dish look. My 74's 12-bolt is stock length so that previously mentioned 5.00" BS is about neutral; 4.00" BS would have more dish but interfere sooner w/the outer fender-lip. 4.00" BS on an 11" wheel would look deeeeeeep but the rear housing is going to need to be narrowed.

Board-member 'Crawdadfox' has a narrowed rear end on his '77 & runs 10" wheels w/4.00" BS (22x10's). His wheels look killer w/the deeper dish vs. mine but the added expense has to be considered (unless you've got connections for that sort of stuff). Look up the thread on his "ebay 77 w/Porterbuilt F/R Dropmembers" to get an idea on the deep dish.

Narrow the rear housing 1" per side & mini-tub the wells 2" & you can turn that frown upside down.

I'm running a 20x10 with 5.25 backspacing. I would say my tires are less than an inch from the inside of the wheel wells. I would not recommend anymore dish to be safe.

with an 11 inch wheel, when does the wheel tub become an issue.

My suspension won't get in my way? I thought that that was going to be the bigger hurdle...

Leaf springs will depending on how deep but 17x11's shouldn't be an issue. 20x12's would take some investigating to verfiy.

I run 15x10 rims with 3.75 inch backspacing and 325/50/15 drag radials in the rear. Basically even with the fender lip and gives a really mean look for the track. Probably won't work with this tire for a lowered truck but maybe with 295/50/15. There's plenty of room to run more backspacing but this was the only backspacing offered for this wheel and I wanted these to match my 15x8's that I use for street driving.

Looks like I have some measuring to do later.

Guess it doesn't really help the the wheel I want doesn't actually come in a 20x12...

Hey Scotti thanks for the compliment! Let me add the amount of drop will play a big roll in rim backspace. On my 77 with the Dropmembers, the tire / wheel combo is so far up into the bed i needed 6" of backspace (4" b.s. on the wheel and narrowed rear 2" per side) On my old 87 with a "mild" 5-6 drop i ran a reverse barrel 20x10 Torque Thrust with 3" of backspace and a narrowed rear. ..2" per side for a total of 5" of backspace, and it looked like a 12" rim. Damn i miss my old truck!

First you need to find out how little backspace a wheel MFG can make an 11" wheel with, then figure out where in the wheel well you'll place the wheel/tire with appropriate space on both sides then measure mounting surface to mounting surface and thats how wide your rear end will be, you'll most likely need to narrow it if your going to go with a serious deep dish. It's been 12+ years since I've worked in the truck shop but I think I'm close on the formula. A quick call to Alan Budnik will tell you how deep he can make a set of 11"s..

thanks for the info. its looking like it'll need 6 inches of backspacing to work and the wheeltubs will have to be widened a bit if i drop it more than 5 inches.
