A terrible weird noise...help
I know this is nearly impossible to figure out over a forum but I'm hoping someone has experienced something like I can describe.
For about two weeks every day I drive my truck I hear this nasty rattle/clicking/possible grinding sound...it only happens when I'm driving and it only happens when I'm accelerating... (not power braking, not coasting, not in park) It's the worst when I'm going about 30 or when I'm going steady up a hill. It's not really loud but my wife hears it, my uncle hears it and one of my friends that I took for a ride could hear it. I have spent about 12 hours under my truck and under my hood tinkering with stuff trying to eliminate the noise and it is driving me crazy. In the mean time I did fix some other problems I didn't know about though Any tips would be very appreciated

Re: A terrible weird noise...help
My guess is spark knock or a cracked flexplate. google that and you might find the answer.

Re: A terrible weird noise...help
Sounds like a spark knock, probably does it more on hot days. Try some premium, fattening up the fuel mix. You can also retard the timing a couple degrees. Check your cintrifical advance in the dist. Last, with the motor running @ 1500 to 2200 rpms, dump 12oz of cool water down the venturi's of the carb slowly. Keep the motor reved (don't let it stall) up as you pour the water thru both barrels. This will help break up some carbon deposits in the combustion chambers.

Re: A terrible weird noise...help
center carrier ? when mine went it was a very curious noise, like something slapping around down there somewhere. but it was easily spotted from under the truck. maybe speedo cable?

Re: A terrible weird noise...help
Have you checked the carrier bearing? Mine was making some of the noises you mentioned some time ago.......it was the carrier bearing. Good time to change the u-joints while you're at it.
