Went to the Storage "Barn"- pic's
I got out to the barn and took some pic's today. Not quite ready to tear into project yet, but almost there! K5 has been sitting in this barn in storage for almost 10 years. Amazed at how much it has rusted just sitting there. Not going to be a problem, as I'm planning on a full resto. Oh well here goes, it starts now!

Yea, funny you should say that! I call her Bessy! Working on buying property next to the house, so I can build a pole barn there. Then I can go out and work on her anytime. Also need room to store all the resto parts I've bought for this project! More pic's!

Thank's, the build will begin soon! Just need space to bring it home and rip into it, can't do it outside.

Almost forgot, Burt4x4- did you see the square u-bolts, and the gas tank skid setup? Different threads, but one objective-1 cherry k5! when I"m done!

Re: Went to the Storage "Barn"- pic's
Ya I did, I would get new rear spring plates and use U bolts. That way thoes bolt ends that are pointing down don't hit the trail/rocks/whatever. Thoes rusty bolts are gonna be fun to break free I would start squirting rust penetrant on everyting so it can soak! Or get that torch out hahaha
That tank skid is factory GM, I had the same one on my 72(when it was stock)

Re: Went to the Storage "Barn"- pic's
Yep, planning on changing all that when I swap in the 1 ton 14 bolt axle. Seems like there's never enough "funds"! Any downsides to those "stock" g tank skid plates?

Re: Went to the Storage "Barn"- pic's
Anybody else running this stock gas tank skidplate? Seems stout enough, just looking for some feedback. Plan on dropping it out along with the tank to swap in some rear shackle flips. Will be a complete frame off resto once I get space to work on it. Anybody else got "barn" pic's?

Re: Went to the Storage "Barn"- pic's
Naa, thoes skids work great. The only reason mine was givin to a buddy is that I switched to a 37gal tank, I was daily driving and the 21 gal stock tank wasn't enough fuel.

Re: Went to the Storage "Barn"- pic's
Yea, I swapped that in out of a "72' K5 I had for parts. I used a lot of parts off that 72. Swapped in the frt. axle, which gave me disc brakes. Tailgate, because my K5 had a GMC tailgate on it when I bought it. Front grille assy, frt bumper, which is gone now! Have all new GM 1970 grille assy to go back on when I get down to it! Wife likes to watch the tach, and tell me when I "overrev" !
