power to cab, but nothing when i turn the key to start the truck

okay, i have power to the stuff in the cab, heater blows, turn signals headlites all work....but when i go to start it with a battery hooked up, AND jumper cables hooked to a nother truck.....nothing happens....

NOW, nothing on the alterator is hooked up, no wires going anywhere, just the belt is hooked up.

if i wire the alt. up will the engine start up like it should? or is something completely wrong..

reason im doing all of this is ive been looking at buying a swb truck with cracked block...was pricing motors today after schoool...and thought to myself,,,HEY why dont i see if i cant get my 350 in my parts truck to run...so i slapped my old quadrajet on....wired everything back together, scooted all the junk over so i can set down on the seat, turned the key...and (start reading at the top now lol)

this has happened to me you are going to need to replace the electronics(dont remember the actual name) behind the key. or just use a screwdriver to the starter after the key is on.

Re: power to cab, but nothing when i turn the key to start the truck

try jumping the wire at the neutral safty switch// near the floor on steering column it's the 2 heavy gauge purple wires just disconnect from switch and run a jumper wire between them MAKE SURE your in park and try the ign switch to see if it will start

Dead starter??? I've had that happen. Turn the key and get nothing because the starter is totally dead.

could be a dead starter mine was toasted to a crisp but if you hit it with a hammer it would twirl a bit if you do end up pulling the starter off make sure uve got some leverage and a place to put it cause that mother is heavy!
