How rare is a side mount spare tire?

I was at the junkyard the other day and I saw a 73-87 stepside with a side mount spare fender on it. I have only ever seen one in my life. How rare is this?

It was an option.
Here is one without it: http://austin.craigslist.org/pts/1173675760.html

Someone please save me from having to look at it. I feel like buying and adding the ZZ4! AAAAHHHHH!!!

Re: How rare is a side mount spare tire?

I am going to buy it just to have it if I want to use it one day. I have a 69 GMC with the fender mounted spare and I like it. I might restore a later model chevy one day and that would be a nice addition to have laying around.

I wouldn't think it was that rare of an option i had a stepside with one, and i have seen a few others around here.

The long step is the one I have seen in the past. This one is a short bed stepper. There is a difference in the fenders from long to short bed.

Not a common option to the general truck buying public. I would say the same thing for the optional 16" 5 lug wheels.

Re: How rare is a side mount spare tire?

There is a difference between rare and desirable. Rare is limited available, but doesn't necessarly make it desirable.

Here's is an example of that first hand-
