question about instrument panel light

I am putting my instrument panel back in and noticed that one of the instrument panel light bulbs is attached to a gray wire that runs up the steering column. What is that light for and what socket in the instrument panel does it go in? Thanks...

This is the fiber optic cable that lights up the shift indicator.
It really does not matter where you plug it, but it is supposed to go to the right of the speedo.

I would assume that the grey wire is the fiber optic wire that sends the light to your shift indicator.

Mine will only reach the right as from the front. My fiber optic cable is too short for the other side.

also, you might want to replace the inst. lamps with #168. These lamps are same physical size as the fact. installed #194. The 168's are 3 C.P. and the 194,s are 2 C.P. ; so the 168 is about 1/3 brighter... If too bright for your desires; just turn down with the lite switch dimmer..........Jim
