72 Panel truck ??'s

I'm looking @ a 72 panel truck and have some questions for the group. I searched the net and found information that they didn't make Panel's in 72. The info I read said they quit panels in 70. Is this true? The truck I'm looking @ came from lousiana in 2000 been here in Michigan since. V8 PS/PB AC and tilt. I know that stuff could have been added on but it looks orig. 5 lug disc brakes too. Any info would be helpfull.

Thats not the vin # for a panel truck. But it is a 1972 title.

The fourth character in the VIN needs to be a 5 for it to be a panel.

did you get any pics? It would nice to see the panel body they put on that thing, or the panel they put that Vin on.

Re: 72 Panel truck ??'s

Right or wrong I bought it and had it hauled home. VIN number same on glovebox and door jamb. Model #10934 which comes back to a fleetside longbed truck. It looks like the real deal but whatever. Very solid w/minimal rust. I'll snap some pics this weekend. Frame numbers by the steering box are 9E827219 and don't match the VIN.

Thanks for the help
John

Re: 72 Panel truck ??'s

your frame numbers 9E827219 make it a 69. The E is probably a B though, no build pland with an E ... Could be an F too I guess.
You say it looks to be the real deal, yet you say it decodes as a truck... what are you saying?
That has the wrong VIN plate on it no question about it. Hope it never bites you in the ass. It's never fun havin your ride impounded and then you being under investigation for stuff you never did.

Re: 72 Panel truck ??'s

got any pics? Love to see what else Michigan has to offer. I just picked my 72 highlander up from the detroit area and brought it up to the up for some rust prevention (painting) for the summer.

Re: 72 Panel truck ??'s

That looks real decent.I`m a big an of vehicles built to be what shoulda woulda coulda.Or,looks factory but isn`t.
I believe as long as everything looks in order 9as it appears to you) with the VIN-plate and title no flags will be raised.I`ve never seen a DMV track down specific model info in a 30+ year old truck. That would be guys like us`s job, along with knowing what was the last year Panels were factory built.
Has anyone ground or filled old frame numbers and duplicated body numbers just to play it safe?I`ve never heard of that either.I have heard on here of problems with such and don`t know how that came about.Could have been a case of offering "too much information" or non-matching numbers on vehicle and title.I`ve never had my numbers scrutinized. The DMV just takes my clear title number and money then give me the plates and card.
What are your plans as far as use of the vehicle.I`d love to own one for my carlentry work.It just seems right.

Re: 72 Panel truck ??'s

The info I got was that it was from Louisana. Has inspection stickers from there dated 2000yr. I need to adjust the rockers (supposedly roller tip) already cleaned the carb, add exhaust. Was hoping to make it my extra vehicle while my 86 shortbed is getting painted/put back together.

Re: 72 Panel truck ??'s

Looks pretty decent. I just looked at the title and registration for my 69 panel and under body it says VAN EX. If you get pulled over and it comes up as pick up I doubt the officer would even notice.
