Engine ID Help Please

Who can tell me what this engine is? Here are the numbers off of the pad on the front of the engine. TO528 CMJ and 16R510581. Is it a 350 or a 305?

I understand the T= Tonawanda, 0528 is May 28th. Does the "6" in the VIN stand for 1976? What does the "R" stand for? I know the rest of the numbers are sequence numbers for production.

Thanks for any help. DMC1

Re: Engine ID Help Please

CMJ suffix code is used on two different years. Either a 1974 350 CID or a 1980 305 CID. I realize that this does not make sence, since the VIN number has a 6 in it indicating a 1976.

The R is in the position where the engine plant is identified and there are no engine plants with an "R" designation.

There may be an error in the stamping.

Look at the front balancer and if it is a small one then the engine is probably a 305. You can also check the cast date on the back of the engine for confirmation.

Re: Engine ID Help Please

Jim, thanks for the reply. I feel confidant it is a 350 now that I have looked at the balancer and also checked the numbers on the back of the block. Thanks again,
