1954 3600 Chevy Pickup

New guy here, just picked up a '54 3/4 ton. Planning on putting everything back to stock and using it (not a show truck). Only cancer is the cab corners, otherwise everything else is solid and probably 95% of the parts are there. Also has a rebuilt '55 235 with auto-choke carb. Lots of surface rust, but it was only $800. Looking forward to learning tons here.

to the boardsfrom the Central Coast of CA. It's good to see another '54 on the boards. My mom and I are in various states of repair/restoration on our '54 pick ups. We essentially swapped beds/chassis as she preferred the LWB to the SWB I wanted. There was also an extra long bed you could special order if 8' wasn't enough. My mom and I both plan on using our trucks, but maybe not to the extent you will with yours. Here's what your front end would look like with a little

Not sure if a "work" truck would need all that pretty stuff, but it should make my DD a bit more eye catching. Keep us posted on your build/resto. We like pictures, so keep them coming too. Congratualtions on the good score. I always admire when some one is using an older truck as a "work" truck. It shows how well made they were. "Like a Rock"

Wow, shiny

We've made a bunch of progress. I need to get some pics up as I have neglected this thread. We've disassembled the entire truck and had the body blasted and primed. Stripped and cleaned the frame coated it with POR-15. Looks like a brand new frame. Sourced a few random parts (bumper brackets, throttle/carb bracket, etc.), put in new u-joints, changed all fluids. The cab is getting patched at the body shop. When it's done, we'll remount it on the frame and start to work on redoing wiring and getting the truck running again. Then, front-end alignment, paint, assembly, assembly, new parts, more assembly, more assembly, etc. But, I think the hardest part is over with. The rest of it should be putting things back together (and buying new hardware). We are going back to stock, so I'm hoping there will be no monkeying around with parts and/or fab.
