Alright I have a 383 stroker going into my truck already which should make her pretty fun. But I was offered a he!! of a deal on this today would it bee too much to add to a street truck? This is new in the box and should if I figure my hp out correctly put me around 700 horses

I have one of those on my 454 Vortec. It upped the fun factor considerably. Go for it.

Just a thought. how much boost are you looking at to make the 700. and is your 383 going to handle it? chargers and turbo's are fun but can shorten your engine life quick if you don't have the engine built for it. Now that I have been the downer of the thread I will end with.

At the very least, I would want forged pistons in that 383 if you plan on running much boost and ideally a forged crank and good set of rods.....especially if your looking for 700 hp. Want to check your existing static compression as well.....Wouldn't want anything more than 9:1 (and that's a little high) if you plan on much boost.

Good flowing heads are important and a cam designed for the application (wider lobe separations).

Other than that, if the price is right, I'd be all over it. If your setup is right and the motor is built to handle it.........it will take a plastic surgeon to remove the smile!

Power adders are great... If the engine is built for it. Compression needs to be around 8 1/2 to 1 if you're planning much boost. And it'll take quite a bit to put you to 700 hp. Definately would use a blower specific camshaft and need to have very good flowing heads. As well as forged internals for it to last. You will also need a blow through carb and box to enclose your carb unless you're going injected.

Not to rain on your parade but you really need to make sure that you build your motor to be used with a pro-charger. We went thru hell and back with my best friends 454 and a procharger. The tuning alone took at least 15 passes on the dyno three days in a row and at the end the most we got out of it was 681 hp...to the wheel, so 700 out of a 383 will take some serious tuning and built lower end....just my .02 good luck....

Is the engine assembled? If it is, you will need to take apart,and build it right, meaning good steel rings (molyfaced will not work), dished forged, or maybe hypereutectic pistons 8.5 to 1 at the high end, as far as a cam goes a relatively stock cam is going to work great, the great thing about a blower is that the air is squeezed in between the valves instead of around them. Good high flow heads are a must, aluminum will allow maybe an extra half point of compresion.

I guess everyone's got there own way of doing it. I run a 327 with 10.5-1 compression an off the shelf comp 268 cam twin turboed and intercooled at 10 psi, all of it blown thru a holley dp. I say do it, just don't get boost happy. And keep the timing low

My buddy put a procharger on his 383 in his 69 camaro, year and a half later still not right. He said he wouldn't do it agin and he is friends with the guys at Procharger.

Just wondering how often have you run this? and with what kind of fuel? Wastegate? What size turbos?
