I am putting in a new cross member for a auto tranny. Is there a trick other then tearing it apart to put in?/

IIRC there is a spot in the frame about a foot back from the normal mounting location that has some reliefs built into the frame that let you slide the crossmember up into the frame.

I am in exactly the same situation. With a stock transmission cross member, you can stick it in at a sharp angle and then twist it until the bolt holes line up.

Right now I am trying to put an aftermarket transmission cross member in. I am noticing that only one bolt hole will line up at a time.

I always have put them in at an angle and used a hammer to straighten it out and move it into the right position.

This is how i have always done it as well, I either use a rawhide hammer or a deadblow hammer and a 1x4.
