Body to frame mounts?
Anyone able to suggest the best way to replace the frame to body mounts which are located under the bed of a 73-87 1/2 ton truck? Hopefully there is a way to do this without removing the bed.
I'm getting some fairly nasty vibrations at certain RPMs, which could be either comming from the bed, or from the rear bumper. (I'm going to check the bumper this morning.) The rubber mounts however appear to be quite cracked and split, but are still in-tact. So is there a way to loosen up the bed to frame bolts and raise the bed upwards via the use of a floor-jack before removing the bolts/mounts one at a time and installing new ones? (Replacing each bolt before moving to the next. Jeff

Jeremy is correct. Check the bed bolts. There's a number of things back there that could vibrate if loose.
One question a friend and I have debated, are there supposed to be pads between the bed and the frame? I say no, they weren't there when I first pulled my bed off, and I've done fine without them. Anyone know for sure?

Stange - I noticed there are rubber 'spacers' on the rear two bolts which connect the bed to the frame, the rest there are none between the bed and the frame. I did locate the source of my vibration however.
There is a length of metal between the rear bumper and the edge of the bed. (Because the tow reciever moved the bumper back a bit) I assume it's there to cover up any wiring and make the truck look a bit more appealing - i.e. no gap between the bumper and bed. The metal piece was 'bowed' slightly in the center, causing it to vibrate when the truck was idling. I drilled a hole and simply dropped down a 1/4-20 bolt and nut, that cured the issue. About those rear 'mounts' however. Think I should remove them? I dont really see why they are there. Jeff
