Window Regulator Help

When I bought my truck the person before me had already replaced the drivers window regulator. The window would roll down fine but coming back up was another story. It was hard to roll back up. The regulator messed up and I replaced it again. I greased the track REALLY good upon installing the new regulator. Now it is back to being easy to roll down but difficult to roll up. Is there something that I am missing when installing the new regulator? Seemed like a really easy unscrew/re-screw operation, not much to it. I just don't want to be replacing the regualtor every couple of months. Any help would be great, thank you

Re: Window Regulator Help

Is the felt, all the glass run set, and channels in good shape? mine does the same thing, if all that stuff isn't in good shape it will cause the window to tilt side to side and hang up. at least mine did

Re: Window Regulator Help

Are you using repro regulators? When I installed my NOS Gm units, I used a combonation of white lithium grease and petroleum jelly in the tracks and absolutely dosed the rollers, tracks and springs in the stuff. They move very smoothly and the combo seems to work very well especially with new rubbers and vent felts

Re: Window Regulator Help

Is the spring in good shape and under tension? Maybe it slipped off the tab?

Re: Window Regulator Help

The regulator that the person before me used and the one I put in were both from LMC. I did get a little carried away with the grease in the tracks. I am really at a lose with it. The passenger door was repalced the same time the drivers was the frist time and it is easy down and up until it gets about 3 inches to the top then it gets a little harder but not near as bad as the drivers side from start to finish. The weather is good right now so I am riding my bike to and from work, I will be taking it back apart this weekend to see what I can find out.

Re: Window Regulator Help

I realy think that you are having weatherstrip problems. I think that the division bar felt is pinching the window sill if you replace the divison bar felt, you should solve your problem. WES

Re: Window Regulator Help

I have the same issue. The window goes down smooth and easy, but its bringing it back up when it becomes difficult. I lift the window by hand and it allows the crank to turn freely. Got the Classic Parts Window Regulator Repair Kit on order. 15 bucks, it should work for me. i hope.

Re: Window Regulator Help

I had the same problem. Now I spray the felt with silicone lube ocassionally.Usually about as often as I lube door hinges latches and such.I have no more problems. It first started when i replaced division bar felts.

Re: Window Regulator Help

The repro regulators are poor quality. I have them on my SWB, and they started having problems after about a year. I drive the truck daily, and roll the windows up and down several times a day.

My other 72 LWB has the original regulators in it. I have cleaned and lubed them very well, and they work just like they did 40 yrs ago. Like most other parts, OEM are without a doubt the best.

Re: Window Regulator Help

Make sure the screws are tight that hold the wing window against the doore frame.. If they are loose the track in front of the window glass could get tight when rolling up the window..
