99 Buckets - Little Help Please - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys-
I've owned my truck for 13 years now and I'm ready to install some newer seats. Picked up some 99 Silverado seats with integrated seat belts. Been reading that alot of you guys have installed these on your own rides.
I have the drivers power and passenger manual config.

Does anybody have a good layout procedure? I still have the tank in the cab, but I can't see that being an issue since the back of the seat would hit the cab before the tank.

I know from searching on this forum that I'll need to reinforce the floor with some 1/4" plate.....but do I need any spacers under the rear mounts?

Any pics showing the seat mounting?

Thanks! I tore the truck down to the frame, and glass beaded EVERYTHING!!
Had to replace a few sheet metal parts, but all in all, a solid truck to start with on 61K miles on her, bought from the orig. owner for $400.
Took me a few years to get it back together, but well worth the wait.

Anyhow, back to mounting my 99 Silverado Buckets....anybody got any input for me before I start??

WELCOME Joe!!!
I haven't mounted seats such as yours before but you will probably have to remove the stock seat and set the new one in to see exactly where,what and how everything will line up.I saw a 60/40 set once that used a socket for a spacer but it was a less"finished" looking truck.
There will be minor differences in floor height since these trucks are 40 years old so doing it this way will let you get the height you need and the setback.You may also decide you don't like the distance from the seat back to the wheel.Just some food for thought.
BTW Look in the meets section for info on BB members meets.

After doing a "dry" fitment of the new seats, it looks like I'm going to need 4 new mounting holes!! IS there anyone out there that has a template for me?? I know there has been a lot of posts about reinforcing the floor, but no mention of installing the 99 & later seats in our 67-72 trucks.

A little help please?

No template, but I will say that I put some '95 buckets in my '70 and felt they were just too high, and I didn't like the high seat back look through the back window. However, in a small window it should be fine. I just couldn't get used to the height, and the brackets were a little too complicated to cut down.

You may end up having to shorten the brackets a bit to lower the seats. I've got a 98 Bench in my 71 and although I am 5' 10" if I give it the old stretch like my dad used to do I look about 6' 8" behind the wheel of the truck going down the road.
Otherwise my seat really sits good and I don't get leg cramps on long drives like I did with the old redneck captains chairs I had in it.

I ended up getting the seat positioned where I wanted it and marked the holes with a sharpie through the bolt holes in the base of the seat.
