Angry Dana 60 Drum Removal

I cannot get the retaining screws that hold the drum onto my Dana 60. I have tried PB, heat and hammering. Anyone have a trick? I even tried putting the lug nuts back on and torquing them down but to no avail. Passenger side came off with no trouble but the other side is not cooperating! It's an ex Minnesota truck and every nut wants to fight me..

I am on my way to find a bigger screwdriver.

Re: Dana 60 Drum Removal

Have you tried an Impact driver? The "manual" kind that you strike with a hammer will "jolt" the threads as well as the hammer blow keeping the bit from "camming out".

Re: Dana 60 Drum Removal

Thanks Longhair! I bought one for $12 at O'Reilly and a big screwdiver with a square shaft. I beat on the impact drive for quite awhile, alternating heat and PB. I then used the screwdriver with a wrench on the shaft and beat on the wrench. They both popped on the first strike. Nice! I am gaining huge amounts of patience with this rust bucket!
