71' lwb body on a 99'-06' frame.

Has anyone tried this yet. I have had this idea in my head for a long time now & just wandered if anyone has tried it.

My frame is in bad shape & I would love a 4x4 rather then a 2wd. I also think it would vary cool to have a late model drive train 5.2L V8 & overdrive trans. & much better suspension. I may us a 2wd to make things much easier.

The closest I've seen was a 99 or so with all 71 or 72 sheetmetal on it.

Here's the site for doing a 88-99 C10 to a '67 style front end. Very cool.

I never bother to do this, but I have to call foul. What you posted has absolutely nothing to do with what this post is about, but thanks for sharing.

Re: 71' lwb body on a 99'-06' frame.

I doubt the frame is flat on the 99 - 06 models, like ours are. This would mean you'd have to fab up a custom body lift... would look dumb on a 2 wheel drive. Other than that, if you want to fab up a bunch of mounts, probably relocate the rear axle, shorten the frame a bit then it might be doable.
This is assuming the frame isn't too wide too.
Doesn't sound like there is enough gain to me.

the time and energy you guys put into making one of these trucks be awesome in stock form really wouldnt be anymore work than to work it onto a newer style frame....

Re: 71' lwb body on a 99'-06' frame.

Thanks for the replies. I am looking at a late model Chevy 4X4 Diesel if I have to fab my own frame. If things work out I will start posting picks and drawings.

Re: 71' lwb body on a 99'-06' frame.

Ive always wanted to build a daily driver like that. A 71 or 72 long box body on a 05 and up 1 ton Duramax 4x4, but I have no idea if it will work or how much it will cost!
