Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
thanks joe!!
well i stumbled accross this truck while lookin for a tailgate in good shape...i asked the guy if he had a tailgate in good shape he said yeah but it comes with a whole truck for 700 or 750, went and looked at it got pix of it now there on here...ive been thinkin bout it for awhile......i dont NEED another truck...but id like one now the bad, motor has a crack in the block, i have a 350 motor from my 71 i could clean up and put in this 71 EDIT,has ac with all components there, full guage cluster, and cheyene....not a LOADED truck, but has a couple of options.. more bad, bed rust pictured above^^^ is that repairable? more bad, needs cab corners and rockers good, swb already has power discs, rally wheels, tires are fair, not great billet grille, is it worth anything, i dont like it much......and of course what ive been looking for, A GOOD TAILGATE LOL let me know whatchall think

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
fastom is right, there's a lot of work there. you may just find another bed and go that direction. front fender, rockers, and cab corners look weakened too.
BUT if it's real, it is a swb Cheyenne and they continue to increase in price. see if you can get a good pic of the SPID and interior! do you know if it is a small or big block? I'd go there with $500 cash.

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
Looks like the bed needs a lot of work, I suspect when you remove the rear tubs you wil have holes there too.
I see rust on the outside of the drip rails, is there rust around the winshield or drip rails ? How about the cowl under the hood or under the cowl by the wipers, those are major pains to fix. Check all problem areas like under the battery to and decide if the damage is fixable or not.

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
It is not unrepairable. just a matter of how much time you want to put into it. I have tons of holes in that same area on my truck. Mine aren't as large as those though. The really bad part is that there aren't patch panels for the inner bedsides (that I know of) so you'll have to find a donor bed to cut them from or buy new $$$ bed sides. I bought a donor bed.. although I haven't started cutting up either bed yet.

Guess I lived with salt long enough to see hope in anything! I thought it looked pretty good! LOL
Just my opinion, that stuff is the easy repairs. Its when the cab and bed support frames are rotted/gone, and the cab cowl is rotted through that its on its death bed. Frank

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
If you want a project go for it! It has potential, just needs some TLC. I agree with tcb offer him 500 to start maybe meet him at 600 if you have to, from the looks of it if you say you have and eng and trans, it would at least be driveable. Just depends on how intensive a project you want. And if your wanting something to resize your picures I use Picasa 3 it is free from google. Once your pictures are in it you just click on them click export and adjust what resolution you want.
Just noticed it ha an a/c cab, I would do it for sure then. I have had people around here ask if my truck had an a/c cab and offer me 1500 for just the cab if it did, maybe people around here are desperate or stupid, but if an a/c cab is worth half that elsewhere I would definitly take it!

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
the bedsides that LMC offer, are they just the outer skin? or is it the whole bedside? does anyone make a replacement inner bed panel?

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
If you want a really nice truck, spend your money on a really nice piece to start with. The cost will offset the work and time and money you will have to put in a piece like this.I'm not saying to buy a show truck, but I've been down this road before, and you will wind up way ahead by laying down a little coin and finding a more rust free piece. It's worth buying for parts more than anything,IMO. I'm not trying to discourage you from buying it,but there is a lot of work to do on that truck.Thats my .02 for what it's worth.

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
just for comparison, i recently bought a 71 swb, factory 5lug,leaf rear, running and driving 350/350 that doesnt smoke or knock for $400.00. needs cab corners and rockers. fenders need a patch at the bumpers.the bed is a lot better than the truck in the pic. the guy was asking $650 and came to $500 real quick, and i was able to negotiate another $100 out of it. I would have gave $500. for it though.

Re: can somebody upload a pic and tell me if this rust is unrepairable
Not to sound negative, but if the bed sides are that bad, I wouldn't count on the tailgate being as good as you think it might. If you don't see small rust holes at the bottom of it I would definently be looking for bondo.
