Longhorn Leaf Springs

PO had 2 of the 8 leafs pulled from each side of the truck when it was new due to an overly stiff ride. I am trying to replace them so I can haul a camper. I looked in the '68 GM Chassis Manual and could not find a C20 configuration, other than the coil set-up. I am now comparing my '68 to my '72 Longhorn which has only 7 springs per side but has the double stack with one spring on top, a spacer and some upper, frame mounted, spring stops. This is confusing. Anyone got a clue?

#1 - original springs removed from '68
#2 - '68 springs in truck
#3 - '72 springs
#4 - '72 springs

Re: Longhorn Leaf Springs

I have the same stack as on your '68 (no 2nd pack). I have had over 3000 lbs in the bed and was at about 60% capacity. Are you sure you need more? Also, not to be nosey, but it looks like you need tires and new exhaust more than you need springs...

69GMCLonghorn...ROGLMAO...that's my Halfhorn that needs just about everything except a new bed and frame that are excellent. Good eye...you caught those 40+yr old bias ply tires on split rims!!!!

LHM...Thanks...I will just assemble the extras into the pack and call it good!

Re: Longhorn Leaf Springs

My 2x4 70 GMC Longhorn had 2 1/2" wide 52" eye-to-eye leafs. Those are the same as a 4x4 up to '91 except the 56" springs on Suburbans and some others. My other leaf spring 2x4 trucks (also both 70 GMC leaf spring trucks) had 2 1/4" wide springs.
