Offroad battery hold down.

The hold downs i have tried from the autopart stores have all failed me offroad. Has anyone here come up with a good way to hold down a battery offroad. Got any pics or ideas of custom heavy duty hold downs for offroad?

Re: Offroad battery hold down.

Well I looked for a better pics of my hold downs but this is all I have online.
I am using hardplastic hold downs. They come from local parts house, Napa I think. Basically it's a two pice plastic hold down. the two pices twist lock togeather, I use additional zip ties to keep them from untwisting/unlocking once installed(look at the center of the batt in pic below). Then two long J-bolts hooked into the batt tray. I drilled a hole in the tray for the J-bolt to seat into, front and back. That and I am using the factory hold down 'pinch' bracket (modified to work with Optima batts) had to grind a half moon in the bracket to seat to the round center 'can' on the Optima.

They work very well and "Trail Tested"

Batts did not move

I have seen som fancy metal ones but kinda pricy, mine are less that 10 bucks including the Jbolts

Have you ever left a bungee streached in the sunlight before? Flakey & brittel they become, so just say no to the bungee

Dang man. Looks like you've got the answer. I've got a NAPA up the street from the mud hole so i'll check those out. That's a crazy flip. How'd the truck recover?

Re: Offroad battery hold down.

Everybody ..PUSH...
Then hooked my winch to another truck and pulled me forward enough to get back on all 4. It was a stupid mistake on my part. I was stratteling the V groove on the trail and got the drivers side too high on the hill then the rear slipped into the V and that sent me over.

Mostly the door/mirror & front fender took the hit, bent one of my soft top bars...then dents are still there..maybe someday i'll do something about it, but this is a trail rig so...

Bought my truck in '02, and it had a tarp strap holding the battery in place. Been there ever since, and I've put her thru some hairy situations... Hasn't gone "bad" like a bungee cord will.

Ratchet strap. One of the smaller one's, not the 2" wide type.

Re: Offroad battery hold down.

here is the one i just did this weekend, relocated mine to the bed. (i just placed the bolts in that spot so i would not loose them, they go into the lower legs that are on the table).....i'm sure you could mod/idea to make one fit in factory area...

This actually seems like a good idea as extra support.
