Stant Gas Cap

I was told that a Stant 2378 cap would fit my 72 as a vented cap. I went to buy one, but was told those were the old Stant model numbers and they could not cross reference. Does anyone know what cap that would be with their new numbers?

If nobody comes up with the numbers I think I have a box from one out in the shop. I can check in the morning.

The 72 was a special cap for only that year. 72 had the vapor recover system. I have one at home in the box. I will be going home at lunchtime and get the part number.

Is it a vented cap? I'm looking for a vented cap, as I took the emission stuff out.

Re: Stant Gas Cap

The cap I have is a Stant #10742. It is for a tank that has the EEC system.
It appears that the cap has a check valve built into it that allows ait to enter the tank but not to let pressure out.

I got busy this morning and completely forgot about this thread. My vented cap is not a Stant but a Balkamp sold by NAPA. The part # for the Balkamp vented cap is 703-1220.

Sorry about that. I just went out and grabbed my cap and looked at the number stamped on it. Didn't realize they changed the numbering system.

I went and pick up the cap today, but unfortunately it is for the 70 or older tanks, and won't fit the 72...Guess I will try to bring my old cap and try to match it up to a vented one.
