Re: Lowering shackles
What he said.
I've heard that it depends on the length of the springs. IIRC, the longer ones clear the cross member. The longer ones might be for the HD option? |

Re: Lowering shackles
Do you still have to notch the crossmember if you use hangers?

Re: Lowering shackles
the lower hangers replace the hangers closest to the gas tank

Re: Lowering shackles
I usually take out all but the last 3/4" at the bottom of the cross piece (up against the bed floor). The notch would need to be as long as the spring assembly and the bolt is, so that there is clearance on both ends of the notch. After cutting a notch into the corsspiece and leaving the last 3/4 inch of metal, I use a piece channel iron or a square tubing cut in half to bolster up the cross pice, so that I do not loose that strength in it. I then drill three bolt holes through the cross piece and the tubing and bolt it together making the notch stronger.

Re: Lowering shackles
I must have the long springs because I didn't have to notch mine. I planned on it but didn't need to. I will hit my diff on the bed floor before the shackle hits the crossmember.
