Red face Rotor position with cap off

Hi, Have troubleshooted "won't start" prob. No spark to plugs. Replacing the dist with a new one. My ? is do i have to find tdc before inserting the new dist. Also, the rotor is pointing toward the firewall when i tried to crank. Please advise.

You want to make sure the #1 cylinder in on TDC of the compression stroke. The rotor should be point toward the front of the vehicle, usually a little toward the driver side... 5 o'clock looking at it from the front of the truck...

If the distributor is 180 off, it usually pops through the carb.
