Wiring harness for our trucks?

Ive seen all these different kits but are they made for these trucks? They look universal. Is there something out there specifically for 60-66? I know GMC is a different animal since the gauges use that panel type setup. The trouble I see with these kits are the column harness and dash. Can one be made using the old and new? Any GMCs out there?

Re: Wiring harness for our trucks?

Joe,

IF you are going to keep the original GMC gauges, and IF you have the socket plug simply match the colored wires to the newer harness. I can send you a the wiring diagram if needed for the speedo cluster wires. The OEM shop manual has it in there also. I have a spare plug with a foot or so of wires still attached, so I can sne dyou a pic of that if needed. The ONLY reason I changed to new gauges was because of a safety factor, (I did not spend all this money to have idiots lights burn out, and something important fail) If you PM me at jbgroby@charter.net I'll link some pictures back your way.

The aftermarket kits work great. IF you want to have the wires custom built it will run you about $600 from Ron Frances wiring or several others like his business and you can find them in Hemmings (search services). You will need to work with them on the exact dimentions, colors, etc.

IMO it's simply not worth it especially if you follow the factory wire wrap rules and cover in black tap (you can't see the special colors unitl you reach the end point.

Re: Wiring harness for our trucks?

I would love those diagrams. Is there a pdf version of the shop manual available any where? All of my guages work I just want new wiring. That seems kinda tedious to have to crimp on the same type of terminal to every single wire or are you talking splicing?
