summit radiator

Before I was running a 4 row radiator. Nothing was wrong with it and I had it boil out. Around town it was running at 175-180. On the freeway it was running hot 210-220. 4 row radiaotor just wasn't getting enough air through it at high speed.
I installed a summit universal 2 row radiator and aux trans cooler rated at 17000 GVW. With no other changes now it runs at 165 and 175 on the freeway. Fans only come on when idling for 15 min or more and temperature comes right down to 160. So far I am happy with it.

Re: summit radiator

Do you know what brand of 4 row radiator you had?

A lot of people recommend them to keep the engine running cooler, but as you mentioned, there's also air movement restriction to consider.

I wonder if it's true of all 4 core or just certain brands? Maybe someone else can post their experience since I had been thinking of getting one.

Re: summit radiator

It was a harrison(sp?) 4 row radiator out of a 70 firebird. A little bigger compare to a stock 4 row. My car and truck both had the same problem with running hot on the freeway with 4 row.

Re: summit radiator

That aluminum radiator is far more efficient. I have aluminum radiators in everything I own with similar results.

I ran a Desert cooler 4 row copper radiator in my Trans Am for a while and it struggled to keep the temp down with my A/C on. I bought a BeCool 2row aluminum radiator for it and it dropped the temp about 15 degrees from 220 in the same conditions.

The key is airflow
